Committee 2017
Chairman: Sue Walker
Vice-Chairman: Helene Dryhurst
Who are we?
We are a well established, enthusiastic and friendly amateur dramatics group based in Rowney Green, near Redditch, Worcestershire and meet regularly at Rowney Green Peace Hall. We produce 2 plays a year. New members are very welcome – please contact any member of the committee. See contact us page for details. Annual membership is £10. There is an additional payment of £10 for each production a member is involved with.
The history of Rowney Green Players goes back to 1923 where is started life as a Shakespearean Society, performing many of the Bard’s works in the local village hall and entering and winning many festivals. The group thrived in the early years having great support from the locals. The early archive books can be seen on display at Alvechurch Museum and are well worth a look. With the breakout of war in 1939 the company took a back seat and re-emerged in 1944 with a production of ‘The Farmer’s Wife’. This was the beginning of a new era as they began to incorporate other productions apart from Shakespeare. ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ performed in 1987 was the last Shakespeare play to be staged.
The Group usually delivers two productions a year performing a mix of drama, thriller, farce, pantomime and musical. We pride ourselves on our sets and costumes, having a costume wardrobe with many original pieces.
In order for the group to continue to grow and thrive we are always looking for new blood, be it in acting, backstage or general help. Putting on a production is hard work but we have a lot of fun in the process and have achieved quality productions.
